Season 3 = Wonder Boys?

Anyone else noticing that the plot of this new season is inching really close to the Michael Chabon novel/film? In that one, a middle-aged, pot-smoking, formerly successful writer with poor impulse control is now wreaking havoc teaching writing to impressionable undergraduates. Along the way he has an affair with the chancellor who is also the wife of the head of the English department and takes a disturbed, sexually confused young writer under his not-so-protective wing while simultaneously corralling his barely functional literary agent who hasn't had a profitable client in ages. Hilarity and inappropriate behavior ensue. There are even a couple of lines of dialogue taken almost verbatim from Chabon's book, most glaringly one that Jill has in "Wish You Were Here" about the written word being her drug of choice. Oh, and both the show and the film of Wonder Boys feature Dylan's "Not Dark Yet" on their respective soundtracks, albeit a cover version in "Verities & Balderdash". Obviously there are plenty of details that don't match up so well, but plenty of the plot points are strikingly similar, to me anyway. So waddya think? Coincidence? Homage? Inadvertent theft? Outright theft?

I had not thought of this, but now that you mention it... I am going to have to mull this over and get back to you.I will say that even though I consider myself the NUMBER 1 fan of the show, I have not been loving Season 3 as a whole. The new cast of characters pales in comparison to Ashby, Mia, Sonja and Julien (the Artist within) - even Bill, the dial tone.
