It's hardly "downtown" Venice. When Abbot Kinney built this little burg by the bay (Santa Monica bay) he envisioned a recreation (of sorts) of Venice, Italy. The "city" was a maze of canals, most of which have since been filled in, however a few remain and homes along the canals are highly desireable and expensive. On occassion you'll actually see someone in a boat or canoe, along with a few assorted ducks. But like the rest of LA, the canals are there mostly for looks. Do you find this valuable?
